Income inequality is a growing problem in the U.S. that threatens our legacy as a land of opportunity. Growing inequality means that fewer families are able to share in the quality of life that defines the middle class, such as access to health care and the ability to own a home. This report looks at income inequality specifically in Florida, how it has changed over the past two decades, and how Florida compares with the U.S. We also examine how income inequality relates to homeownership and health care coverage. Finally we offer a discussion of some of the causes of growing inequality and some of the solutions that Florida can adopt to counter this trend.
